Karl Gercens is a horticulturist who has been working at Longwood Gardens for most of his career. He is also an avid photographer, with many Instagram followers and a website with tens of thousands of pictures from his work and his travels.

In advance of this year's DVHS photo contest, we asked Karl to provide us some tips on getting good garden photographs with simple equipment (camera phone or classic camera).
